Prenatal Care for Expecting Mothers

Prenatal care for expecting mothers is vitally important. It’s essential to ensure a healthy pregnancy and the best possible outcome for both you and your baby. The right prenatal care can make all the difference during this important time.

Prenatal care helps identify any potential risks or complications during pregnancy. It provides education about what to expect and how to manage pregnancy’s physical and mental changes.

Many expecting mothers are unaware that their family medicine doctor can often provide obstetric (OB) and prenatal care just as an OBGYN or gynecologist would.

Our physicians are trained in managing pregnancies, delivering babies, and providing primary care for all ages. This allows our patients to choose a doctor who can care for them, their newborn, and their entire family – meaning you don’t have to have a separate OBGYN and family doctor.

Our Obstetricians Provide:

  • Family planning and birth control
  • Fertility counseling
  • Prenatal care
  • Labor and delivery care
  • Postpartum care
  • Newborn care

In addition to caring for you through your pregnancy and delivery, our Family Medicine physicians provide primary care for infants, children, and adults. From preventive care and screenings to managing illness, injuries, and chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, our family medicine doctors provide so much more than just obstetric and prenatal care.

At Sunflower Medical Group, we understand that going through a pregnancy can be an emotional time in your life. Our Kansas City therapists are available to help you navigate these challenges.

Simplify Your Prenatal Journey with Your Family Doctor

When it comes to choosing your family doctor for obstetrics, you’re choosing a seamless transition into prenatal care. No need to switch providers or transfer your health records; your family medicine provider is ready to guide you through your obstetric care.

Your medical history is already in safe hands, eliminating the hassle of filling out new forms. Your doctor knows you, your journey, and is best equipped to empower you with informed decisions for your prenatal well-being. The trust you’ve built together also means you can openly share any questions or concerns, without the awkwardness of starting over with someone new.

Rest assured, our care matches the standards of a dedicated OB/GYN clinic – all recommended treatments and tests are available. And the perks continue after your baby arrives – both you and your little one can stick with your trusted family doctor. In fact, we often combine postpartum and baby visits for your convenience.

Choose continuity, choose comfort – choose your family doctor for obstetrics. Your prenatal and postnatal path is smoother than ever.

Why Prenatal Care Is So Important

Prenatal care is one of the most important aspects of a healthy pregnancy. Throughout a woman’s pregnancy, regular prenatal visits allow for monitoring of the baby’s growth and development. It also serves as an opportunity for pregnant women to discuss any concerns they may have.

With the right prenatal care, potential problems can be identified early on and addressed quickly. Whether it’s discussing nutrition, lifestyle habits, or possible genetic issues, these conversations can help prepare mothers-to-be for what lies ahead. Prenatal visits also serve as an opportunity to receive recommended vaccines that protect both mother and baby from certain illnesses that could put them in danger during birth or later in life.

How Often to Have Prenatal Appointments

Early in your pregnancy, we schedule prenatal appointments every four weeks. From weeks 28 to 36, we’ll have you come in every two weeks. Once you get to week 36, we’ll see you weekly.

How Many Prenatal Visits Are Required?

Throughout your pregnancy, with your monthly visits starting after the four-week mark and more frequent visits after 28 weeks, you should plan for about 15 visits.
