Just call any of our locations to make an appointment including our Mission location at 5555 W. 58th Street. At our Urgent Care Center, you don’t even need an appointment. Just walk right in. We want to make it easy for Mission residents to get a flu shot. At our Mission location, we have adult flu shots and pediatric doses as well. The flu season can last from October through May, so make sure your family is armed and ready. Just call any Sunflower Medical location for an appointment or walk right in to one of our Urgent Care Centers.

Everyone Should Get a Flu Shot

The Center for Disease Control recommends that everyone over six months old should get a flu shot. The more people in the Mission community who receive the vaccination, the fewer people there will be to spread the influenza. We’ve got flu shots for everyone in your family. While the flu shot can benefit everyone and is recommended for those over six months old, there are certain people who should definitely get it. Those include:

  • Anyone under five years old (especially those under two)
  • Anyone who has asthma, diabetes, or chronic lung disease
  • Anyone who is pregnant
  • Anyone age 65 years and older
  • Anyone who lives with or cares for people with asthma, diabetes, or chronic lung disease
  • Anyone who has contact with infants less than 6 months old
  • Anyone who works in the health care field

Why and How Flu Shots Work

The flu shot contains dead influenza virus. When it is introduced to your body (either by injection or Flumist in a nasal spray form), your body starts to produce antibodies against it. Within two weeks, your body has enough antibodies to fight off the influenza and if you are exposed, you will not get the flu. The more people in the Mission community who receive the flu shot, the fewer people who will contract the flu and spread it to others.

Keep the flu out of Mission this winter. Call for an appointment at any Sunflower Medical location including our Mission location at 5555 W. 58th Street during regular hours: Monday–Friday 9 am–5 pm or walk right in to our Urgent Care Center Monday–Friday 8 am–8 pm, Saturday 9 am–2 pm, and Sunday 10 am–2 pm. There’s no appointment necessary at our Urgent Care Center.
